Serge Dandelin asked:

What do you mean by “ethical”? Ethical is normally considered “the right thing” or morally

correct. Ethical is your conscience who says ‘yes’. In this context, what is ethical SEO?

Frankly speaking there is no such term in the correct sense of its meaning. SEO is a

method by which a website ranking can be improved by making it more visible and

acceptable to the search engines.

Basically speaking, all the SEO methods that fall into the category of ‘acceptable by

the search engines’ are ‘ethical SEO’. Those which are not acceptable by the search

engines, by default, become unethical SEO methods.

Search engine optimization is supposed to promote your website by giving it a higher

ranking. By using a search engine friendly website you will increase your ranking

and get more traffic and sales as a result. Hence, all the tricks that succeed in

this task are called ‘ethical SEO’ while those which fail are branded as opposite.

It is often seen that in order to get the required results, the SEO experts adopt

methods such as hidden texts, doorway pages and keywords stuffing.

These are definitely backdoor methods, which can never be described as ‘ethical.

Yet, that is what they are called – for the sole reason that they have been accepted

by the search engines and hence they work.

Don’t be fooled by SEO companies who use dirty tricks and tactics when optimizing your

web site. The search engines will penalize or even ban your web site for using such methods.

That way, you will need to understand that the term ‘ethical SEO’ is not really

about ethics. You would rather call it search-engine approved method. Once, you

understand the term, you will also understand that ethics is not really the criteria

that makes things work. Hence, the ‘ethical search optimization’ term is basically

an oxymoron!
